“Ring Out, Wild Bells,” a poem by Alfred, Lord Tennyson, was published in 1850 as part of In Memoriam A.H.H. It was later translated into Swedish by Edvard Fredin, whose version, “Nyårsklockan”, appeared in newspapers in January 1890. On New Year’s Day in 1895, the poem was read aloud at Skansen for the first time—a tradition that has continued nearly every year since.

This presentation has been arranged and recited according to the Swedish tradition and accompanied with an original musical composition by Michael Idehall.
